As the United States continues to build a wall between itself and Mexico, Which Way Home shows the personal side of immigration through the eyes of children who face harrowing dangers with enormous courage and resourcefulness as they endeavor to make it to the United States. The film follows several unaccompanied child migrants as they journey through Mexico en route to the U.S. on a freight train they call "The Beast." Director Rebecca Cammisa (Sister Helen) tracks the stories of children like Olga and Freddy, nine-year-old Hondurans who are desperately trying to reach their families in Minnesota, and Jose, a ten-year-old El Salvadoran who has been abandoned by smugglers and ends up alone in a Mexican detention center, and focuses on Kevin, a canny, streetwise 14-year-old Honduran, whose mother hopes that he will reach New York City and send money back to his family. These are stories of hope and courage, disappointment and sorrow.
They are the ones you never hear about – the invisible ones.

This is a documentary film about competing social classes, sports and ambitious kids from opposite sides of the track. It’s a film about injuries, victories and opportunities and measuring up to the status quo. It just happens to be about high school football and it just happens to be set in Maine. It is the tale of two communities, one white collar and one blue, united by a common dream: winning the State Championship. The physical conflict takes place on the playing field, but the real story is how these two communities see themselves and what they teach their kids about the game of life, the pride of place, the passion of tradition and the careful balance between success and respect.

Script to Screen: The Art of Visual Storytelling

This workshop is sold out.

Scripts are where the written word and performance meet. Whether fictional or factual, screenplays are a form of art with unique demands, but also tremendous creative freedom. Not every great story results in a great script, nor does every great script make it to screen.

Explore the techniques professionals use to tell their stories through an interactive discussion on common myths and misperceptions about the process of taking a screenplay to production. Learn to balance plot advancement with character development and craft scripts that will draw the attention of prospective filmmakers. If you’re new to screenwriting or just looking to hone your existing skills, don’t miss this overview of the art of storytelling for motion pictures and television. Even those just interested in the screenwriting process will find a new appreciation for film and the challenges of going from script to screen.
