Other Info	From Emmy-nominated Habitat Media (Empty Oceans Empty Nets and Farming the Seas) comes PRICELE$$, a film exploring the consequences of an electoral system that can obligate our leaders to the special interests bankrolling their election campaigns. The filmmakers follow a river of money through two national policies that affect the everyday lives of most citizens: agriculture & energy. In addition to time spent with farmers and an unusual group of Iraq War veterans, the filmmakers visit seasoned lawmakers, lobbyists and some dauntless citizen watchdogs. A classroom full of savvy civics students help provide comic relief. PRICELE$$ also takes a behind-the-scenes look at Arizona’s road-test of an electoral reform that some observers believe can free Congress from the corrosive influence of big-money donors and lobbyists. Narrated by filmmaker Steve Cowan, PRICELE$$ was made on location in Washington D.C., New York, Iowa, Arizona, California and Oregon. Other Info	This documentary tells the David and Goliath story of how miners in Boron, California fought the Rio Tinto Group that drastically cut the workers' benefits. Rio Tinto threatened the miners in Boron--either accept their cutbacks in the new contract or find themselves locked out of work. On January 30th, 2010 the workers voted unaminously to reject the company's proposed contract and on January 31st, 2010, they were locked out of work. The workers faced financial hardships but stood strong during the 107 day lockout and beat back a multinational corporation. It further reveals Rio Tinto's egregious practices in the U.S. and around the globe--from Michigan to Australia to Bougainville. Outside, lack of blood supply transportation and family planning are examined as causes of the cycle that kills more than 36,000 Nigerian women each year. The central characters in The Edge of Joy are the people deep within the Nigerian culture who know its misconceptions, its limitations, but also its capabilities. Narrated by award winning journalist, Eliza Griswold, and featuring animation by Yoni Goodman, this portrait of pregnancy and childbirth shows the consequences of poor maternal health as it explores the nuances and complexities of bringing emerging health technologies to the developing world. Dawn Sinclair Shapiro directed, produced and wrote the feature length documentary “Inside the Handy Writers’ Colony,” which aired nationally on PBS in 2008. She began her journalism career working for the award-winning news magazine program CBS News Sunday Morning. Dawn has worked as a Producer, Writer, and Online Editor for Tribune Broadcasting, CNBC, MSNBC, Dateline NBC, and Chicago Public Radio.
