Ryan 14:00 Chris Landreth, National Film
Board of Canada
A gentleman panhandler. One of the pioneers of Canadian animation.
Oscar nominee. Poor beggar. An artist unable to create. God
observing the world. Fallen angel. Arrogant. Shy. Broken.
Not destroyed. "Ryan" is based on the life of Ryan
Larkin, a Canadian animator who, thirty years ago, at the
National Film Board of Canada, produced some of the most influential
animated films of his time. Today, Ryan is living on welfare
and panhandles for spare change in downtown Montreal. How
could such an artistic genius follow this path?

Simmons, Kensington Communications
A young mother, the victim of a car accident that has left
her paralyzed, travels to Portugal to undergo a radical treatment.
Adult stem cells will be harvested from her nose, amplified,
and then injected into her spine. The hope is that the cells
will renew and heal the spinal cord, and give her back some
feeling and utility. Stem cell therapies, like this one, hold
both great promise and great controversy. But just what is
stem cell therapy and why is it such a divisive issue? Miracle
Cell goes to the front line of regenerative medicine to follow
spinal cord and heart patients undergoing stem cell treatments
and track their recovery in the months that follow.

Ceausescu's Kids 48:00 Mary Ann Alton,
Barna Alper Productions
For a generation Romanian women were forced to have babies
they didn't want. It was the work of a madman, Nicolae Ceausescu. He
imposed a ban on abortion and birth control and forced every
woman of child bearing age to have at least four children. Control
over reproduction was strictly enforced. The infant and maternal
death rate was high. Thousands of them had AIDS. Ceausescu's
lasting legacy is a generation of unwanted children.
Warning: This film contains shocking and graphic images.
4:00 pm-5:00 pm
Talk Mogadishu: Media Under Fire 50:00 Judy Jackson
Reporting live, from hell Somali Canadians fight for media
freedom in war-torn Mogadishu. It is, simply, one of the worst
places on earth. For more than a decade, the African nation
of Somalia has languished in a state of near-total anarchy.
Rival warlords have battled for control of this lawless country,
killing thousands. The former capital, Mogadishu, is a ruined
shell of a city where torture, kidnapping and murder are the
only things found in abundance. In the midst of violent chaos,
HornAfrik is a rare beacon of hope.
